IDEATHON 2022 - FOR IMPROVING URBAN SERVICES TO CITIZENS
New Town Kolkata Green Smart City is launching a Ideathon to solve some of the pressing problems faced by the city administration in providing quality service to citizens.
The Ideathon aims to leverage design thinking and innovative learning practices to ideate and collaborate on possible solutions. Any actual implementation or working prototype is not within the scope of this challenge.
The objective of the Ideathon is to inculcate a culture of innovative thinking and problem solving to improve the urban services delivery by the local bodies and increase the quality of life in the city. Participation by students, professionals, start-ups and other institutes is welcome to ensure that this Ideathon promotes innovative out-of-box thinking andcrowdsource problem solving of some of the most important challenges faced by the city authorities.
The Ideathon is open for students (undergraduate and above), researchers, professionals and all citizens. The Ideathon will have two rounds, with the finalists of the first evaluation round being invited to present their solutions to a grand jury in round 2, post which the winners will be declared.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Each team may consist of upto four participants. It is expected that they brainstorm on the problem statements provided and come up with innovative ideas to solve the issues presented. The teamsmay present their solutions to the problems using any open source data as they deem fit.
Teams may also consist of a mixed group of students, professionals, business thinkers and data enthusiasts.

Teams shall be judged on the following parameters in both rounds:
1. Team Name and Team members
2. Problem Statement Chosen (Out of four)
3. Idea: Brief understanding of the Problem Statement
• Proposed Solution
• Overview of the Proposed Solution
• Intended Beneficiary/user segment and how it helps them
• Relevance in New Town Smart City
• Potential Impact-The impact metrics that one can use to analyze the effect of the solution
• Financial implications if any
• Ease of implementation - Stakeholders involved, Infrastructural requirements
• Potential risks and mitigation plan.
4. The submission must be limited to 10 pages max. including pictures, flow diagrams, algorithms if any.

TEAM ELIGIBILITY

Undergraduates and above including professionals.Four members per team not necessarily from the same institute/organisation

ROUND 1 – ONLINE SUBMISSION OF CONCEPT NOTE
A 10 page concept note has to be submitted. The jury will verify the concept note. Please structure your idea under the following guidelines.
1. Team Name and Team members

• Proposed Solution
• Overview of Working of the Proposed Solution
• Intended Beneficiary/user segment and how it helps them
• Relevance in New Town Smart City
• Potential Impact; the impact metrics that one can use to analyze the effect of the solution
• Financial implications if any
• Ease of implementation - Stakeholders involved, Infrastructural requirements
• Potential risks and mitigation plan.

ROUND 2 – PRESENTATION TO JURY OF PROBLEM STATEMENT
1. The shortlisted teams from ROUND 1 shall appear for a presentation in front of a jury. This can be either at a physical location of a meeting hall or Online.
2. Shortlisted teams will have to work on a prototype of their product and prove that their solution is implementable via a data model or a solution. A presentation format is available for download from the website. Selected participants will also get the format communicated via mail by the support team. Participants must ensure that the no of slides does not exceed 10.
3. The objective of the presentation needs to be clarified to the participants and a fixed time will be allocated for each presentation. 15 mins to pitch & 10 mins for Q & A
PROPOSED TOPICS FOR SUBMISSION
1. Water Management
Optimise water supply timings in New Town to residential and non residential areas using various parameters such as water supplied per day, water consumption, energy consumption, renewable energy used, storage capacity, transmission losses and supply timings. Any other data point available from any open data source can also be used by the participants.
2. Transportation
Analysing cellular data, mobile tower location, open source maps, traffic flow how can travel times and routes passing through New Town be optimized. Any other data point available from any open data source can also be used by the participants.
3. Solid Waste Management
a. Using vehicle movement correlation and timings of bin clearing suggest the most optimized placements of waste bins in the streets of New Town. b. Suggest a waste collecting ‘fleet management’ mechanism to New Town using various data such as no of garbage collection vehicles in New Town, collection timings, location of primary transfer stations, waste generated etc. Any other data point available from any open data source can also be used by the participants.
